As it progressed, parallels with Cloud Atlas continued, not just in terms of the period the voyage was set, but in the themes related to exploitation. Also very moving is the account of Peevay- a Passengesr native- as the world he knows comes to an end. While these characters can be infuriating, they illustrate well the attitudes that caused Europeans to destroy native peoples — without the novel becoming preachy or overbearing.
